Problem with Alps

After downloading and unzipping the file Alps_V1.01.rar, and then installing Oggetti.rpk and then Alps V1.0.rpk; as well as copying the Alps.bin and loading_alps.TgPcDx to the assets folder as directed; the route does not appear as a selectable route in Rail Simulator

(I moved my post from the original Alps posting because it was becoming too large and this little post was lost in it)

Ciao Otto,An intelligent

Ciao Otto,
An intelligent packager would be the definitive solution for everyone!!
Maybe will take time to get it "unerring" but we learnt from Alps experience that community is really patient.
Until that moment route creators have to pay attention and include "everything" the route needs in the Asset setup.
In the future this process will take more time considering routes will be made mostly by custon object...that means several assets.

Further to Bremen he is a moderator of www.trenomania.it. (RS section of course)
I think is on holyday now :-)

he will use new assets fo

he will use new assets fo sure...considering we are going to delete the few non italian objects still present.
Claudio Mussa (the stations creator) is working on new bridges while someone else is working on new buildings with hd textures.
Anyway, we will package everything with RSTMB...
I'm not sure if we release an update or a completely new package.
What i know for sure is that we will not use RS packager ;-)

Hi Luca !At present the

Hi Luca !

At present the RS_Tools_TMB can only package the route itself without any freeware assets add-ons or rolling stock the route uses and both the latter will have to be provided as a separate downloads.

Mike Simpson is working on an optional function to have his utility include all of these freeware assets when packaging a route ! :-)

But got a feeling that him being the guy he is, he might include freeware add-on rolling stock too, which however could make downloads too bulky, but could be moved out into a separate download ?

Any news of what Bremen-79 can do for the route's scenic views ? I can not find a contact e-mail to ask him !

PERFECTION at LAST

Thanks to Chris (basherz) reminding me to use the RS_Tools_TMB "Check for Missing Stock" option, I found the answer to the last missing piece of the PERFECT ALPS route puzzle. :-)

This "Merci Per Cimalago"'s MERCI 2 AI service problem was caused by it looking for a Diesel\BR294\Blue\Engine\br294.bin which does not exist, it's add-on having been installed as Diesel\BR294\294blue\Engine\br294.bin !

Am about to upload the modified and now complete ALPS rolling stock to: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/rs/alps-rolling-stock.zip
and all previous downloads now using the modified Routes.xml and any further enhancements to the ALPS route should now work everywhere using my downloads, providing that Pedro does not use new Assets and Rolling stock add-ons, he will have to include with his update !

CIAO, O t t o.

finally you got it.Main

finally you got it.
Main thing is that you/Mike found the solution.
Pedro is expanding the route and soon he will release a new version.
I'll absolutely tell him to use RSTMB to make the new package...

So..let's try to make a summary of what happen.
1)Some users could not see the route in the list, even if it was regularly installed.
2)Thanks to Mike's Missing bit, you were able to see some assets required were missing.
3)this is supposed to be the problem!! (isn't it??)
If this introduction is correct, why am I able to load the route even if i miss some assets to??
Why after replacing the xml file with the fixed one the route can be seen??
Sorry if too many questions, but i like to understand problems!! :-)

P.S How do i check by TMB the assets required?

Routes.xml

Hi Luca !

"Why after replacing the xml file with the fixed one the route can be seen??"

The original version had a problem at the end of it's cRouteProperties paragraph, preventing RS from reading it properly and all that followed, such as my ALPS-OTTO paragraph !

Variations

Hi Luca !

When I prepare an add-on for RS then I assume that the installer has limited knowledge of what is required to install it and may also not have the Assets it needs in order to work. Mike Simpson's RouteSetup.exe takes care of that and if there is no Route_Setup.xxx file in the download ZIP will install Assets also, I prefer doing instead of using his AssetSetup.exe !

Missing assets usually do not stop a route running, but you will see many oddly textured images appear in scenarios instead. Missing Rolling Stock used by a route's services however is guaranteed to cause problems when trying to run scenarios and an addition to the Routes.xml which is not coded and formatted correctly will prevent the route from being listed in RS Routes Menu !

Pedro modifying the route should copy/paste it's Routes folder and change the last character of it's Route folder and create a copy of it's paragraph in the Routes.xml, using this changed route ID and give it another name such as ALPS - V.1.02, so that it does not overwrite the existing version 1.01, many may have created new scenarios for or have modified existing ones.

You can see how I did that when adding me FREEROAM ALPS-OTTO copy of the route to the available in RS routes !

Any off-forum help is available by e-mailing me via my web site: http://www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/oaw_000011.htm

The www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/rs/alps-assets.zip is in the process of being uploaded and should be available in about a couple of hours !

The route and the rolling stock ZIP is waiting for a possible improvement of the hazy views !

RS_Tools_TMB

Hi Luca !

"Do you think that in general, is better to use RSMB instead of the packager??"

Absolutely !!! The RSPackager has to install add-ons into the RS Registry Path, whereas Mike's RouteSetup.exe gives installers the option to install them into other copies of the Rail Simulator folder, I have 6 of for testing various RS things ! :-)

If it were not for his RS_Tools_TMB.exe and the KRS Route Analyzer I could not have fixed your route, nor packaged it sensibly ! :-)

He is now working on his packager to automatically include Freeware assets the route uses which are installed in the route creator's Assets folders !

It is now ready for distribution, packaged by the above into 2 downloads:

alps-route-stock.zip - 133 Mb -contains the V1.01, all the rolling stock it needs, my rails and the Named Route Markers.
alps-assets.zip - 160 Mb - contains all the freeware add-on scenery objects, etc, the route needs.

All of it is working now, including the "Merci per Cimalago" scenery, alas without the Merci 2 AI service, which caused the "Failed to Load" in my RS and the views are still hazy until you can find out what Bremen 79's solution is.

If I can fix that too then will upload both ALPS ZIPS to my web site for you to download and then put them onto your's !

High demand for the downloads could exhaust the monthly downloads Bandwidth I am paying my web site's host for ! :-(

Do you think that in general, is better to use RSMB instead of the packager??

unable to find "caricamento" folder

Hi Everyone

I have downloaded Alps v1.rar file, installed both rpk files but then in doc file its asks to move files from "caricamento" folder into another for loading RS screen. I cannot find this "caricamento" folder. could someone tell me where it would be located. I have tried searching my computer but no results

Thanks Michail

Ciao Mishi, caricamento

Ciao Mishi, caricamento means "loading".
I wrote that in the README.You just have to put those files in the template route folders.
OTTO I guess the 294 you need is the blue reskin one.
Can you give me a private contact of yours..i've to tell you something.

This afternoon i'll probably update the route with some fixes for the signaling.

Merci per Cimalgo Problem

I finally tracked down the problem.

This scenario uses 4 AI services, Merci 2, Intercity, IC 4532 & ES 4565. Found the Intercity and ES 4565 in the scenario and made them STATIC consists and not being able to locate the other 2 removed them from the scenario's Scenario.bin !

No more "Failed to load" ! :-)

So it I restored the "Merci per Cimalgo" Scenario.bin BACK-UP and removed one after the other of the AI services, test-running the scenario after each removal and it was not until I removed the Merci 2 driver paragraph that the scenario loaded O.K. !

Restored the Scenario.bin again and only removed the Merci 2 and the scenario still loaded O.K !

Had the KRS Route Analyzer check the scenario and it reports that there is no Blueprint for the MERCI 2 AI consist's BR294, of which I have the original and 2 other colored ones in my Assets folder !

O.K., that is now getting near the end of making this route perfect and perhaps Pedro can tell us which type of BR294 he has used for the MERCI 2 AI in this scenario, I do not have !

Mike Simpson is working on a version of his RS_Tools_TMB Route Packager, which will include all the Freeware add-on assets the routes uses, but not the rolling stock, which I may assemble into just one ZIP for easy installation using his RouteSetup.exe ! :-)

Did the same with all the German rolling stock the WUPPER-EXPRESS-10 and 11 use.

but no folders called "network" inside...No trace of the bin you ask for.
In my opinion the packager is joking us and it just requires files nobody has :-)
Let me see if Pedro has this in his Assets...

I checked but everything seems to be ok.
OTTO you said 2 scenarios failed to load...i guess one is the same and the second??

Hi Luca !The scenarios

Hi Luca !

The scenarios which did not work before updating the ALPS with your rolling stock download were the Merci Delle, which caused a "Runtime Error" and the ES 4521 causing a "Send....", I reported in the other ALPS thread.

Where can these missing SAD assets having these file be downloaded from ?

Rail Simulator\Assets\SAD\Network\de_tracks2\de_local_trackrule.bin

Tried to fool RS with a renamed copy of the Siegen trackrule.bin but did not fall for it, no longer being listed as missing, but still get the "Failed to Load" trying to run the Merci per Cimalago" ! :-(

Yes, I always delete ALL Blueprints.pak files after making changes to anything RS !

Confirmation

HY Lucacanna
Just confirming that yes i got the Alps route to run from 1st Installation, all 3 scenario's Work without any 'failed to load, messages, posted below are screenshots of all 3 scenario's running without any failure. And yes this is a official RS and MK1 installed.

Also regards a earlier post by OTTO regards missing assets, i ran the route thru RS tools to check and i also came up with missing assets but the last 3 in Ottos are not appearing in my missing assets, maybe should look at these for causing the fail to load.
RS Tools missing assets from the Alps.
missing assets

the three assets im refering to are...
H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\SAD\Network\de_tracks2\de_local_trackrule.bin

ciao Otto, i was talking

ciao Otto,
i was talking about the route problems...not the scenario one.
My God...i though scenarios didn't load because of missing rolling stock...but it seems there're other problems.
I think the most important thing is to understand WHY this happens to some users while the others have no problems.
Of course we assume that everybody has the official RS and MK1 installed...

So you confirm that

So you confirm that everything worked fine since the 1st installation??
i think , like you, that missing assets is not the real problem.
You can even install just the route without the objects, and you should be able to see that in the list.
I'm glad you like the route, and i'm happy to say that Pedro is working to expand it!

Hi Luca ! If this refers to

Hi Luca !

If this refers to what I have reported:

So you confirm that everything worked fine since the 1st installation?? I think, like you, that missing assets is not the real problem.

then yes, I had no problems with it's Routes.xml nor running it in Freeroam mode, having installed both it's *.rpk and the KRS-EuropeanContainer.rar, but 2 of the scenarios "Failed to Load" !

Otto i just read on AT.net

Otto i just read on AT.net that an Italia user had same problem...
I suggest him your route version, he tryed but still no route in the list.
He finally fixed with the new route.xml i just linked.
It's becoming funny...
it seems that is very difficult to share complex routes with many 3rd party FREE objects ;-)

Great Route

Hya lucacanna,
Just downloaded the alps route, Installed all files as said in the readme file.
And Now enjoying the fantastic route. Been reading this thread about all the problems ppl have been having and it was slightly putting me off, but thought i couldnt see this route unless tryed it out for myself.
Installed 1st time and got your alps showing in routes and started all 3 scenario's without a hitch.
Just like to say how great it is.

Also was under the impression that if you had a missing asset the route would still load up but just wouldnt show that asset in the scenery, sure read if built a route using a asset from the us assets it wouldnt show up unless you had the us route/download installed.
Maybe im wrong.
Just found this regards why scenario's get a failed to load message http://www.railsimulator.com/en/node/3709#comment-12770
Thanx any way for such a great route.
Dunk.

My updated with all the

My updated with all the recent downloads of the Routes.XML and installing all the downloaded rolling stock for it still "Failed to Load" the "Merci Per Cimaloago" scenario.

Below is what Logmate reported then, which I saved before exiting the scenario and perhaps one of you can spot what is causing it I can not !

So I deleted all rolling stock there, including the player service and with it it's path and inserted a new player service using the default Class 166 FGW with no path and still got a "Failed to Load".

Anybody else having a problem running this scenario ?

Hi Luca !

Have updated the ALPS route with your latest rolling stock and XML file downloads, assuming that the ALPS-V1.01 has not changed did not download that one too !

I am still getting "Failed to Load" trying to run the "Merci Per Cimalago" scenario. Deleting the Player service and all the rolling stock there and using the Class 166 DMU made no difference. There is something else there this scenario has a problem with ?

Starting a Freeroam player service there in the ALPS-OTTO causes no problems.

Checking the route for missing assets these are still reported and not sure whether one of them is the cause of the above problem, but think that the icepak ones can be ignored ?

Your XML update could also cause problems with those who have many other routes in their ROUTES.XML and although you warn them to BACK-UP the original in the README, many do not bother to read, they still would have to COPY/PASTE the additional entries from their BACK-UP into your's, or vice versa, I can see causing problems.

Almost there and once this scenario has been fixed or what is missing has been supplied then I might be tempted to package the whole lot, including all the rolling stock and let you have it for distribution from your download web site !

Fix and rolling stocks ready...

here you find the route.xml fix and the RAR with rolling stocks.
http://www.railsimulator.com/en/node/3825
REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL ROUTE.XML as the fixed one only contains the 4 default routes and of Course Alps :-)
That means for example you will not see the american route.
I hope Adam will read this and try to figure out...
In the meanwhile as Otto wrote: Enjoy the scenery!!!
Ciao!

Missing Assets

Those who are having problems running the route after installing it can download my stand-alone freeroam only scenario copy of it, which supplies most of the Assets they may not have installed and should run "out of the box" !

After Luca has released the updated with required rolling stock and the fixed Routes.xml route, I am looking forward to, it too should run on all computers which have my ALPS-OTTO.zip download installed.

Users of my copy of the route can then replace the Class 166 FGW I have used in most of the GPS Named Route Marker locations with more appropriate for the route rolling stock ! :-)

ok Guys...i see there more

ok Guys...
i see there more trouble than benefits :-)
I'm very sorry for that because route is beatiful and was made to be shared with you guys.
Thia afternoon i'm going to make a big RAR file with all the rolling stock included.
I'll link that at the beginning of the "Italian route Alps" 3ed (here http://www.railsimulator.com/en/node/3825)
Further to the other problem, Pedro confirmed is a route.xml problem.
This are datas should be present in route xml file after Alps is installed:

Finally working

I have both Alps and Ottos-Alps installed and running.

I will list the steps I have taken, some may be relevant, some may not be.

After installing Alps for the second or third time,I used RS Tools the missing bits to get a list of missing items.

I then created those items in my assets folder by hook or by crook, sometimes copying existing similar items and renaming them with the missing bin file name (including the missing Track Rules from the SAD assets - I used a copy of the Sieg_Hage_Main.bin file and renamed it) In the case of one of the Ice assets, I had the asset but the character set naming the folder and the asset did not match the character set in the RS tools list of missing items, so I recreated the asset with the new charater set.

None of the above actions made a difference (yet)

I deleted the ALPs route using RS tools again.

I then redownloaded the route from the web, this time using Internet Explorer instead of Opera. I noted that the downloaded file was 10 meg larger than the previous download from Opera, although the two .rpk files themselves were the same size.

I reinstalled the Alps V1.0.rpk again ( I did not mess with the Oggetti.rpk as I had already doctored up my assets folder)

I started Rail Simulator again and still Alps was not a listed route.

I went to the create new route screen, and the Alps route was available as a template, so I created a new route using the Alps template.

I then deleted the new route because it was just a test to see what would happen with the route creation.

By this time I was thoroughly disgusted, so I went back to RS tools one more time to delete the Alps route that I had reinstalled, and noted that it was not a listed route in RS tools.

I then went and once again reinstalled the Alps V1.0.rpk one more time using the latest download from IE, and lo and behold, when I started Rail Simulator, Alps was a listed route, and I was able to run the Free Roam scenario.

My interest was whetted at this point, so I reinstalled Otto's version of Alps one more time, and it too became a selectable route in Rail Simulator, and I was able to run his scenario.

So all that said, I do not know if my hacking of my own Assets folder , clearing out the vestigial Alps template from the new routes area, using the better downloaded file from IE, or any combination of the above that made this thing work, but it finally does.

so the problems come from

so the problems come from missing some objects?
Why it didn't happen with you, me or Vlad??
The package is the same...

Missing Assets

These are the Assets folders some ALPS users may be missing, not having downloaded them for another reason. The ones authored by RSderek could even be from a RS Payware route not everybody has purchased ?

Following item(s) were missing from this route:-

H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\Developer\Addon\atnet\scenery\vegetation\at_ulivo_01.bin
H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\RSderek\RailSimulator\scenery\vegetation\bush_gorse_02.bin
H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\icepak\ice\bridgenr2\bridgenr2.bin
H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\Niall Wallace\GenericStuff\scenery\roadsignage\road_sign_stop_modern.bin
H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\SAD\Scenery\vegetation\little_trees.bin
H:\Program Files\Rail Simulator-ALPS\Assets\Mcs\Addon\scenery\buildings\it marciapiede 20 x 6.bin

Copying the Assets folders from my MAIN RS into this basic installed from DVD RS-ALPS copy solved the problems !

So I have planted this idea into Mike Simpson's head. :-)

What if he could use his program's missing assets function and include them and their folders when packaging a route for installing with his RouteSetup.exe, not including assets from Kuju, RSDL and other payware vendors, everybody is assumed to have purchased and installed ?

Would of course make downloads larger, but not many should have problems with downloading them these days ?

Missing Assets

I was just about to report the same, TS.com members having made me aware of.

Having Mike Simpson's RS_ Tools_TMB check the route it finds scores of missing assets from ICE, SAD and many others, I have installed but they have not.

They should be included in the download so that it will run "Out of the Box".

I usually create a Freeroam scenario copy of routes I like so that I can customize them to my requirements, not disturbing the original. That way I do not have to worry about having to download lots of rolling stock, using what I got already !

Below are screenshots from my copy of the basic RS installed from DVD plus the Mark-1 update, I can test installing routes into to make sure that the ones I release work everywhere and if not then include the assets they need, as long as doing that does not infringe RSDL Copyright ! :-)
